My wife and I do hard things. Here's why we need your help

I don't do this often, but today I'm asking for your help.

(In the last 38 weeks, I've asked for something exactly onceβ€”downloading my podcast. Which was just more free value.)

Before I get into that, I want to give you some value first: a brutal 25-minute delt workout that'll leave your shoulders screaming (in the best way).

Then I'm going to share a personal story and ask you to support a cause that means the world to my wife and me.

Sound fair? Let's dive in. πŸš€

πŸ’ͺ 25-Minute Delt Destruction (Tonal or Gym)

Most people train shoulders the wrong way…

They hammer overhead presses, blast their front delts, and completely ignore the two areas that actually create that wide, capped, 3D look:

  1. Side delts
  2. Rear delts

If you want 3D delts that "pop" in a tank top (rounded from the front, wide from the side, and full from the back), you need a structured session that hits all three heads of the delts with intensity.

β€œIntensity is the price of excellence.” β€” Warren Buffett

Here’s your 25-Min Delt Destruction workout:

0️⃣ Barbell Seated Overhead Press β€” Warmup (8, 4, 2)

Use 50%, 70%, and 80% of working weight

1️⃣ Barbell Seated Overhead Press β€” Double Pyramid (12, 8, 15)
Use Eccentric Mode if you’re on Tonal

2️⃣ Seated Overhead Press β€” Reverse Pyramid (10, 12, 15)
Again: Eccentric Mode

3️⃣ Cuffed Rear Delt Fly β€” 1 Set x 15/side
Go slow and controlled β€” this is where the β€œ3D” look starts

4️⃣ Cuffed Lateral Raise β€” Drop Set Finisher (3 total drops)
Painful in all the right ways

Hit this workout once a week for 4 weeks and watch what happens.

Why Do We Do Hard Things?

Why push through a brutal 25-minute workout that leaves your delts screaming?

Because hard training builds more than muscle...

It builds resilience. It builds mental toughness. It prepares you for when life tests you.

And life has a way of testing all of us.

As Rocky Balboa once famously said, "Life is a mean and nasty place. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it."

That's why we need to be ready for that moment.

And it's why we need to help others who are on their knees right now, fighting battles we can't see.

πŸ’› A Personal Note (And Why This Email Matters)

If you've been following me, you know my wife and I went through a long, emotional, and brutal IVF journey to have our son, John Bruce.

I've shared pieces of this story before, but today I want to paint the full picture because I'm asking for your help with something important.

IVF is a hellish nightmare I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

It's overwhelming on every level: physically, emotionally, relationally, spiritually, and financially.

Physically, my wife got the worst of it...

She was poked and prodded in ways no woman should ever experience. And shot up with more hormones than a bodybuilding champion.

For me, I dealt with anxiety, heart palpitations, and tachycardia watching my wife endure treatments without being able to do a damn thing about it except be a cheerleader.

A man with the tagline of "Action is the difference" doesn't do well as nothing more than a glorified cheerleader.

Emotionally, it pushes you so far beyond what you'd expect...

You ride a wave of emotions that swings from highs higher than the Sears Tower to lows deeper than the 7th circle of hell. And that can happen in the same week.

Relationally, it will either bond you... or break you.

My wife and I spent countless hours in couples therapy and even more just taking trying to understand each other, communicate, and stay strong together.

Spiritually, it will either create or kill your belief in God, good, and humanity.

I found my faith again when my mom passed, and it was strengthened throughout this process. But it was definitely tested.

There are moments you feel the world is awful and unfair. And others when you think everyone is an insensitive jackass or a greedy fear monger.

Financially, it's absolutely absurd the amount of money it costs.

Like stupid amounts of money because everyone plays on your emotions.

All in, between multiple rounds of treatment, medications, consultants, therapy, and everything else β€” we spent well over six figures to have our son.

We're incredibly fortunate we could afford that.

Most families can't.

When a single egg retrieval costs $25K+ β€” not even considering the extra bloodwork, supplements, medication, and other expenses β€” it adds up quickly.

We've seen people at the clinic maxing out credit cards to pay for treatment.

For my wife, she had to pretend she was fine when jacked up on hormones. Act happy for friends announcing their second and third pregnancies while wondering what's "wrong" with her.

And having to manage all of it while people say insensitive things like:

  • "I don't know how I got pregnant again."
  • "Have you tried lifting your legs after sex?"
  • "Just get drunk and go on vacation, you'll come back pregnant."

For me, I had my own problems to deal with. It's not talked about often but older men also have physical issues with conception.

On top of that, I dealt with the shame of being a man and a protector to my wife... yet unable to fix this, comfort her, or control the outcome.

And through it all, both my wife and I had to show up to work each day and put our best foot forward for our clients who depend on us...

Clients whose income we depended on to continue paying for fertility treatment.

I wrote this journal entry during our second embryo transfer, before we knew whether it would work:

"The outcome is already determined and only God knows the result. Our embryo either attached or it didn't. I can't influence it now. I can't protect Anya from pain if it doesn't work. I can only control the man I am in-between now and the news."

And that's what IVF does to people:

It tests your patience... It tests your faith... It tests your marriage... It tests your resilience... It tests parts of you that you didn't even know existed.

And unless you've lived it, you don't fully understand the emotional and financial weight this process places on families β€” especially women.

Women who get criticized, feel less than, and whose bodies become a science experiment in the hopes of creating life.

πŸ’° The Financial Reality Most People Don't Talk About

Here's the truth...

My wife and I are incredibly fortunate. We didn't have to choose between IVF and keeping our house. We didn't have to max out credit cards or take loans from family.

But we are the rare exception.

We know people who don't have kids today because they couldn't afford more than one round of IVF. We know others who bankrupted themselves trying.

And we've watched families at the clinic β€” good, hardworking people β€” forced to stop treatment because they literally couldn't afford to continue.

The difference between having a child and not having one should never come down to money...

But that's the reality for most families pursuing fertility treatments.

πŸ’› Why I'm Asking For Your Support Today

My wife and I are incredibly passionate about helping other couples who are walking that same road β€” the one filled with hope, fear, waiting, setbacks, faith, and prayers.

There's an organization we're supporting this year that helps families afford fertility treatment, which is one of the biggest barriers standing between them and a future child.

πŸ‘‰πŸ» The Brilora Fertility Foundation

For the next 7 days, my family β€” the Bloore Family β€” is matching every dollar donated up to $30,000 to help provide financial support for families pursuing fertility treatment.

That means:

  • Your $5 (the price of a Starbucks) becomes $10
  • Your $50 becomes $100
  • Your $500 becomes $1,000
  • Your $1,000 becomes $2,000

Every dollar you give will be matched by us, dollar for dollar, up to $30K.

πŸ‘‰ Donate here to help families like ours

And here's exactly where your money goes:

  • Doctor fees for IVF treatment
  • Medications for egg retrievals & transfers
  • Lab costs for creating embryos
  • Costs for families who can't afford another round

This isn't abstract. This is real families getting real help to have the children they're praying for.

Every time I look at John Bruce β€” even when he wakes me up crying at 3 a.m. and I'm struggling to think clearly, let alone feel grateful β€” I'm reminded that he's a miracle.

And I think about the families still fighting for their miracle. The ones who are one more round away. The ones who are out of money but not out of hope.

Anya and I would love your help in raising money for this cause.

If you've been through IVF yourself, know someone who has, struggled to get pregnant, or simply want to help families create the life they dream about β€” your support means more than you know.

I've never loved the idea of waiting until January 1st to start something new. As Greg Plitt once said, "You don't become a different person all of a sudden on January 1st." That's why I don't wait. I've already started working toward my 2026 goals. Not by obsessing over outcomes, but by locking in the behaviors that create them. Goals are lagging indicators. Actions are leading ones. And today's email is about putting more of the right actions on autopilot. Let's dive in. πŸš€ πŸ‹οΈβ™‚οΈ Training:...

I rented out a cupcake shop for my birthday... Not a bar. Not a restaurant. A cupcake shop. 🧁 But not just any cupcakes shop, it was Kara's Cupcakes in San Francisco... To this day, as a self-proclaimed cupcake connoisseur that's eaten thousands of cupcakes, I still consider these the best cupcakes I've ever had. I was 33 years old and the only adult to ever do this. #NoRagrets The staff thought it was hilarious, especially since my entire group was personal trainers. Mostly fit men who made...

It's December already... And if you're feeling the stress creeping in, you're not alone. The holidays are supposed to be joyful, but they rarely are with family gatherings, work deadlines, holiday spending, and enough sugar and alcohol consumption to keep Charlie Sheen satisfied. 🧁🍷 (Maybe not that much but you get the point.) And I didn't even mention trying to stay consistent with your training & nutrition while everyone is guilting you to do the opposite. I get it. Six years ago, I was...
